Chemistry 155
I started my freshmen year with the Honors Chemistry series, the Chem 1x5 series here at the UW. I expected it to be a challenge from the beginning, and first quarter was a struggle for me already. So during winter break when I heard horror stories about 155 I was doubting if I should even take the class or not.
However hard and challenging Chem 155 was, in the end, it was one of the most worthwhile classes I've taken so far. The professor was hard and had very high expectations, but he was an amazing teacher who really cared whether his students learned or not. It was difficult but extremely rewarding. I feel like I've mastered so many topics because of the professor's amazing teaching style, and his enthusiasm for science and chemistry inspired me further to continue on my current path.
This was also my first 4.0 at UW!

Prof. Richard Freeman
In Spring of my sophomore year, I decided to take a course on nuclear weapons and policy. It turned out to be a tiny class of only 7 people, and it was taught by Dr. Richard Freeman. I took the class as a credit filler at the time, but absolutely loved the course and loved taking classes where we just discussed history and politics. This is when I really found out a joy of being in the honors program. At the time, I had just began thinking about graduate school and was very uncertain, but Prof. Freeman was encouraging to me and not only facilitated interesting discussions in class, but also helped me in my own personal academic life
The following year, I took a course on artificial intelligence with him. Once again, a topic not really related to my major or area of study, but one I found fascinating.
When the pandemic began, I found that he was teaching another course - it was online, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take another course with him. This course was on the Fermi Paradox, a.k.a. aliens. It was one of the courses that I really looked forward to getting on my computer to, and one of the few bright spots of online school for me.
